What it actually puts on your machine
"No installer" is easy to say and worth spelling out. Tengai never runs a setup program, never asks for administrator rights, and puts nothing in Program Files or the registry.
It does create one folder — %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tengai — the first
time you run it. That holds a support library it needs on disk rather than
in memory, plus the cache for the browser engine it draws the interface
with. Together they come to roughly 14 MB. Deleting that folder removes
every trace of the program; the app rebuilds it next time you open it.
The renderer itself is the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime, which is part of Windows 11 and installs alongside Edge on Windows 10. Tengai uses whatever is already there and never downloads one.
Windows will warn you the first time
Tengai isn't code-signed — a signing certificate is a yearly fee, and this is a free tool. Windows treats any unsigned download the same way, so you'll see a warning that has nothing to do with what the program does. Here's exactly what appears and what to press:
- Your browser says "Tengai.exe isn't commonly downloaded" — choose Keep.
- Windows says "Windows protected your PC" — click More info, then Run anyway.
- That's once. Windows remembers the file afterwards.
If you'd rather check before running it, compare the SHA-256 above against
your copy: Get-FileHash Tengai.exe in PowerShell.
After you export
Getting the pack into Minecraft
Tengai gives you a .zip. Custom skies are an OptiFine feature, so you'll need OptiFine installed for the profile you're playing.
Drop in the zip
Put the .zip in .minecraft/resourcepacks. No need to unzip it.
Turn it on
Options → Resource Packs, move it to the right-hand column, then Done.
Check the setting
Options → Video Settings → Details → Custom Sky: ON.
